South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP)
The South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) is a 692 km (Azerbaijan - 443 km, Georgia - 249 km) long, 42-inch and 48-inch pipeline constructed to transport natural gas from the Shah Deniz field to the Georgia-Türkiye border. The first Shah Deniz Stage 1 gas reached Türkiye in 2006.
To reduce environmental impact, SCP was constructed along the same corridor as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. The pipeline’s initial annual transportation capacity is 7.41 billion cubic meters (bcm).
The South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion (SCPx) represents the second segment of the Southern Gas Corridor - a strategic project enabling the transportation of gas from the Shah Deniz Stage 2 development to Türkiye and Europe.
This development increased SCP’s total transportation capacity by 16 bcm, reaching 24.04 bcm per year, with the potential to expand up to 34 bcm annually. The SCPx pipeline was commissioned on 30 June 2018.
The pipeline is managed by South Caucasus Pipeline Company Limited (SCPC), while SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations LLC has been serving as the Commercial Operator since 2015 and as the Technical Operator since 2021.

Iğdır-Nakhchivan Gas Pipeline (INP)
The 97.5 km (Türkiye - 80 km, Azerbaijan - 17.5 km) 16-inch Iğdır-Nakhchivan Gas Pipeline was constructed to transport natural gas from Türkiye’s national grid to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
This standalone cross-border pipeline enhances regional energy security, strengthens Türkiye–Azerbaijan cooperation, and ensures a reliable gas supply to Nakhchivan, which is not connected to mainland Azerbaijan’s gas network.
Construction was led by BOTAŞ on the Türkiye section and SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations LLC on the Azerbaijan section.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 25 September 2023, and the pipeline was inaugurated on 5 March 2025 during an event attended by the Presidents of the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Azerbaijan, underlining its strategic importance.
