Nakhchivan Thermal Power Station

Balancing Infrastructure Investments With The Global Shift Toward Cleaner Energy Sources

Corporate Strategy

The Nakhchivan Thermal Power Station is designed to significantly enhance electricity generation capacity in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, meeting local energy demand and enabling exports to nearby regions.

The plant will operate on high-efficiency gas and steam turbines using a combined cycle process to ensure optimal performance. The initial planned capacity is up to 300 MW, with potential expansion to 500 MW. This facility will provide reliable, sustainable, and efficient energy production while minimizing environmental impact.

On 23 December 2024, by Presidential Decree, SOCAR was officially assigned to conduct the Pre-Front End Engineering Design (Pre-FEED) study for the project. The Pre-FEED phase has been completed and submitted to the Government of Azerbaijan for further evaluation.

Key Outcomes:

• Recommended plant capacity: 300–500 MW
• Optimal fuel supply route and source identified
• Preliminary environmental and permitting strategy outlined
• Identified synergies with regional power export potential
